Just because Sex and the City made the move to the big screen, doesn't mean we can't still get hours of enjoyment from the six television series! It might have ended over five years ago but, for many women, watching re-runs of Sex and the City video, from all the seasons, is an essential indulgence, not to mention an education!
The Success of a Groundbreaking Television Series
Sex And The City has been in our lives since 1998, and ever since has been changing the way women see themselves, relationships, and each other. Even now, sales of Sex And The City video boxsets show how the message is still so important today. It's given career driven women a voice, and it's shown that what women really talk about can be respectable, thoughtful and complex, even when the main subject is men!
Since the first episode (which drew in 3.7 million viewers) to the last (drawing over 10 million), we have known that these women were something out of the ordinary. And, though they represent extremes, most of us can find something of ourselves in at least one of them.
Following the Struggle of Four Strong Women
Through the six series we are introduced to the many issues that modern women face. Though they may have more freedom in terms of careers and money, this comes at a price.
Advice columnist, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her high power, New York Businessman, Mr. Big (Chris Noth) have center stage throughout the series' six episodes with their on-again/off-again rollercoaster relationship. After following her to Paris and finally winning her over, Big and Carrie make it to the altar. But what lies in store for them in the sequal?
For Charlotte (Kristin Davis), the eternal optimist, love doesn't come easy. But persistence pays off, and she finally gets the family she wants and deserves by the end of Sex and the City: the Movie.
High-powered attorney, Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) struggles with her self confidence and direction in life. Does she want a career, a family, or both? After several several hilarious pregnancy/baby episodes, she settles into family life with her husband, Steve (David Eigenberg) and his mother.
And not much needs to be said about Samantha (Kim Cattrall) " the promiscuous, career-hungry woman who isnt afraid to take exactly what she wants from life. Not to mention the fact that shes helped women all over the world be proud to say Im forty-f*****g-five!
