Harry Potter's Story Comes To A Close With The Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Movie

By Kelsey G. Hamilton

Critics and moviegoers alike have raved about the movies based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter book series. Diehard Harry Potter readers and fans have come out in droves to watch their favorite literary characters come alive in theaters. The final tale in the series of seven books will be presented as a two part film, the first of which is scheduled to hit theaters November 19, 2010; the second comes out July 15, 2011. The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie is being put out by Warner Brothers studio in a normal 2D format as well as in 3D.

Harry, Ron, and Hermoine work together again in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie to fight Voldermort. However, as Voldemort has gained power, Harry Potter is hunted down and constantly in danger because of Voldemort's Death Eaters. Harry's only opportunity is to find the Horcruxes, the key to Voldemort's immortality, before he is captured. In the process, he finds out about the legend of the Deathly Hallows and the final adventure begins to take shape.

There were several reasons why the studio took the difficult decision to make the last Harry Potter book into a two part film. The sheer length of the book would make it very difficult to keep true to the author's story while still making a normal length movie. Besides that, film makers have explained that the highly emotional nature of the last chapter in this long series deserves careful attention to detail and time for the characters to end their own personal stores properly.

Efforts started on the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows movie in pre production on January 26, 2009. Leavesden Studios, where the previous six films were all shot, was again used and filming began there on February 19, 2009. According to the director, David Yates, hand held camera work has been used frequently in order to create a new feel.

Outdoor scenes were shot in Freshwater West, Swinley Forest, and downtown London. On the last day of filming, June 12, 2010, many crew members were moved to tears since it brought an end to the 10 year Harry Potter project.
